DISGRACED PROLETARIAT: Romanian youth YEARN for communist past

Daniel David, Romania's minister of education, recently commented on the affinity of Romanian youth for the country's communist period, believing it to be a beneficial one. While Romanian schools teach the history of totalitarian and communist regimes, he questioned the credibility of the material presented and the method of teaching. Instead of equipping students with critical thinking skills and reliable information, he claims Romanian kids are drawn to "astrology-type approaches" to understanding reality. Romanian students enter high school with similar skill sets to those in neighboring countries, but end up considerably behind the international average at the end of high school.
