Human Trafficking OFF THE CHARTS in modern SLAVE COLONY, Romania
Romanian NGO "Justice and Care" reports that the scale of human trafficking in Romania is vastly underestimated. Their report covers three counties, with harrowing implications. 85% of the victims are 14-17 year old girls, and 62% of the cases occur in rural areas. The most dangerous county, Dolj, had 117 cases in the last five years.Β
Alongside uncontrolled poverty and social media access, Romania's dropout rate (15.6%) may be to blame. The trafficking usually begins with a promise of work, education, or romance. Without local protection, the victims become almost invisible.Β
